Face to Face: Tonganoxie’s Jenny Worden

By Shawn Linenberger - | Jul 19, 2016

Name: Jenny Worden

Born: Kansas City, Kan.

Family: Married to John Worden for 15 years. The couple has two grown daughters. Daughter Cindi Benson and her husband, Matt, and granddaughter, Holland (1 1/2 months old), Tonganoxie, and Casey Worden and grandson Gage, 3, of Blue Springs, Mo. Jenny and John also have a son, Cooper, who will be a fifth-grader starting next month at Genesis Christian Academy. The family also has four dogs, four cats, two goats and two fish on a “minature farm” north of Tonganoxie.

Occupation: Worden has owned and operated Camp Canine Kennel in Leavenworth County since July 2006.

“We are a small dog boarding facility that specializes in one-on-one quality care for our clients when they travel for business or pleasure,” she said.

Dream job as a child: Running a horse-boarding facility.

“You can say I’ve always been an animal nut,” she said.

Interesting fact: Worden sang in a Worlds of Fun commercial in the 1980s.

Digging deeper: Worden loves making pottery but said she doesn’t find much time to do that.

In her early 20s, she traveled for weeks and months at a time while working for a saddlebred trainer out of Springfield, Mo.

She is a member of West Haven Baptist Church and teaches fifth and sixth grades for West Haven’s Sunday school. She also is the Sparky Secretary at Awana on Wednesday nights.

Though she grew up in Kansas, Worden has lived in North Carolina, Missouri, Colorado and then moved back to Kansas.

Her family owns a cabin in Estes Park, Colo.

“We visit once or twice a year,” she said. “It’s my home away from home, and John and I plan to retire there someday.”

One of my favorite Bible verses is: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” Galatians 6:9-10 NIV.
