Tonganoxie High summer camps, weight program starting soon
Sports is a year-round process that continues with the summer offseason.
Some camps have been scheduled, with more to come in the coming weeks.
Here’s a look at some of the camps and programs being offered so far this summer.
Summer hoops camps
With school no longer in session, it’s time for camp activity in the local gymnasiums.
Tonganoxie High boys assistant basketball coach David Hillmon is leading camps for both the middle school and elementary school.
The Little Chieftain Basketball Camp is for any students — boys and girls — who will be entering grades 3-5 in August. That camp will be 2-4 p.m. June 6-9 at Tonganoxie Middle School.
Hillmon also will be leading a camp for boys entering grades 6-8. That camp will run 1-3:30 p.m. June 20-23 at TMS.
Early registration is $45 and then $50. It’s also $50 at the door if anyone registers at the camp, though advance registration is preferred.

Tonganoxie High School girls basketball coach Matt Frost is having a middle school camp for girls that will run from 12:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. June 6-10 in the THS main gymnasium.
Cost for the camp is $40.

Tonganoxie High will conduct a volleyball camp for youths in grades 1-12.
For students in grades 1-4, the camp will run 11 a.m.-noon June 13-15. Cost is $25 per player.
Students in grades 5-8 will practice 9-11 a.m. June 13-16. Cost is $35 per player.
Players in grades 9-12 also will have practice 1-4 p.m. June 13-16. Cost is $40 per player
Throughout camp players will experience instruction and game play at each session.
Camp instructors are Tiffany Parker, Brandon Parker, Stephanie Wittman, Ginny Reischman, Kelly Neis, Paige Deathe and other guest coaches.

Workouts start June 13
The Chieftain Power summer strength and conditioning schedule gets started June 13 and runs until July 28.
The six-week program runs four days a week (Mondays through Thursdays) and is broken into four sessions: 6:30-8 a.m. (all males in grades 10-12), 7-8:30 a.m. (all females in grades 9-12), 7:30-9:10 a.m. (freshman boys) and 10:30-11:45 a.m. co-ed beginners, grades 7-8).
Participants will get an off week July 4-7 in between two three-week sessions. Components of the program are technique/proper teaching progression, mobility, strength, power, speed, agility, quickness, pylometrics and conditioning.
Cost for the program is $40 per student or $80 per family.
