Face to Face: Tonganoxie City FD Capt. Adam Griffith

By Shawn Linenberger - | Mar 1, 2016

Name: Adam Griffith

Born: Dallas

Family: Wife, Erin; children; Ashton, 15, a Tonganoxie High School freshman, and Landon, 11, a fifth-grader at Tonganoxie Elementary School.

Occupation: Captain with the Tonganoxie City Fire Department.

Dream job as a child: Griffith’s aspirations as a youth came to fruition as an adult. He always wanted to be a firefighter.

Interesting fact: Griffith has worked as a fire sprinkler fitter for 14 years installing fire sprinkler systems. He currently has a side job in the profession at a company out of Grandview, Mo.

Digging deeper: Griffith’s father worked for Boeing and then McDonald-Douglas. The family lived in Hutchinson until he was 4 and then when his father got the job with McDonald-Douglas, he moved to Tulsa, Okla. Griffith lived there until he was 16 and then came to Olathe. A 1998 Olathe North High School graduate, Griffith attended Johnson County Community College, where he got his EMT certification and then later earned his Fire 1 and Fire 2 certification from Hutchinson Community College through a two-week academy there.

His family moved to Tonganoxie in 2007, and then in November 2009, Griffith was laid off from Simplex-Grinnell, where he also did sprinkler installation.

Timing and location turned out to be OK, as the TFD hired Griffith in April 2010.

He met his wife in the Kansas City area. She went to Olathe East.

Griffith loves baseball, especially the Kansas City Royals variety. He only missed watching a handful of games last season and is looking forward to more Royals baseball.

“I like sports,” Griffith said. “Quite a bit.”
