Residents brave elements for Tonganoxie Recreation Commission Easter Egg Hunt

March 22, 2016

Though the weather wasn’t the most ideal, youths and their families still turned out to collect 5,000 eggs at Saturday’s Tonganoxie Easter Egg Hunt.

Brad Eccles, assistant Tonganoxie Recreation Commission director, was happy to see the community come together for the annual event.

“The numbers were down a little from previous years,” Eccles said. “The cool weather and snow flurries helped keep the numbers slightly below average, but we’re pleased with the turnout despite the weather.”

Beth Eaton with The Ruffled Daisy provided crafts, which were free for participants. Youths painted terra cotta pots at the craft table.

The Tonganoxie High School Art Club volunteered its time to paint faces, and the Easter Bunny appeared and was on hand for several photo opportunities.

Finally, Tonganoxie police and fire departments handed out coloring books and stickers. Firefighters also showed off a fire truck for children at the hunt.
