By Staff | Mar 30, 2016

A 26-year-old Leavenworth man was sentenced to more than 16 years in the Kansas Department of Corrections for convictions of aggravated battery and robbery from a jury trial on Jan. 25-26.

Clayton Wilmer was sentenced to 194 months, 162 months in KDOC for the aggravated battery and 32 months in KDOC for the robbery. The court ordered the two counts run consecutive. He must serve 36 months of post-release supervision upon completion of the prison sentence.

Wilmer’s convictions stem from August 2014. According to Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson, evidence was presented that Wilmer entered the residence of the victim around 2:30 a.m. He told the victim he’d been watching her text on her cell phone for the previous 30 minutes. Wilmer attacked the victim, punching her several times in the face. The victim ran out of the residence and attempted to call 911. Wilmer attacked the victim again, took her phone from her, and continued punching her in the face before eventually running off.

Multiple witnesses testified the victim was covered in blood, had trouble speaking and was in extreme pain. Witnesses stated the victim told them Wilmer was the person who attacked her. The victim was diagnosed with a broken jaw, which required surgery and her jaw to be wired shut for six weeks.
