Super Spooktacular

By Shawn Linenberger - | Nov 2, 2016

Friday was the annual Spooktacular event and, again this year, it didn’t seem to disappoint.

According to organizer Monica Gee, children were really involved in games and the bounce house, getting into the whole event and “not just the candy.”

Local businesses and organizations handed out candy along Fourth Street, while children also were drawn to the pocket park at Fourth and Delaware.

The movie “Hotel Transylvania” played on a huge screen in the park, as many children stopped to watch the movie.

Food vendors also added an extra element to this year’s Spooktacular. Gee said the vendors were an extra element parents rushing around to get kids ready for the costume night could enjoy.

The Skeleton Scavenger Hunt that took place in advance of Spooktacular was a “huge success” for children and businesses and “got families out and about to know what is offered in Tonganoxie.”

Gee is a member of Entrepreneurs Achieving Success Together, an organization that is spearheaded Spooktacular in recent years. Tonganoxie Public Library also helped in sponsoring the event, as did local businesses.

Friday was about “bringing the whole community together for a little slice of time that will be remembered by Tonganoxie kids forever,” Gee said.

Tonganoxie will have another big downtown celebration next month.

The Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting festival will be Nov. 19 in the downtown area.

The city’s Christmas tree soon will go up in the downtown pocket park just south of the council chambers.
