Getting warmed up for Tonganoxie winter sports

The winter season is coming. Preseason practice got started Nov. 14 for Tonganoxie High basketball and wrestling teams. It’s been full speed ahead for the teams, including a new tradition for the boys and girls basketball teams. On Tuesday, the teams had an event similar to college basketball’s preseason kickoff to practices. Instead of a standard Red/White scrimmage, festivities started at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday with activities such as a 3-point contest between the boys and girls teams, a half-court shooting contest, THS seniors vs. staff basketball scrimmage, fan giveaways and more.
Lions Club offers screening, to have informational meeting Tuesday at library

Lions Club members provided service recently to Tonganoxie Elementary School which could benefit the health of students. Vision screenings discovered 49 students who may need professional eye exams. Lions Club members, using the Welch-Allyn SPOT device, screened 533 kindergartners, first-, third- and fifth-graders.

Visitors gathered to once again kick off the holiday season Saturday in downtown Tonganoxie. Folks gathered for various local talent performing near the pocket park at Fourth and Delaware as part of the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting festivities.
Tonganoxie sales tax mail-in ballot question coming this winter
New developments with potential library locale, interlocal agreement and festivals

Tonganoxie will move ahead with a mail-in ballot for replacement of the 3/4-cent sales tax for Tonganoxie Water Park. The Council approved the final measure, 5-0, Monday, with ballots expected to be sent out in February.
