Olathe man sentenced in Tonganoxie DUI case

Martin Patrick, 46, Olathe, was convicted by jury last week in Leavenworth District Court of driving under the influence of alcohol. Sentencing will be 10 a.m. Jan. 4.
Leavenworth man gives guilty plea in battery case
November 30, 2016
A Leavenworth man pled guilty last week to two felony counts of aggravated battery and one count of domestic battery on Oct. 19, 2016, in Leavenworth County District Court. Judge Gunnar Sundby sentenced Miller to 162 months in prison due to his criminal history and the severity level of the offense. The Leavenworth County Attorney’s Office filed charges following an incident on March 10, 2016, in which officers were called to Miller’s girlfriend’s home after he shoved his girlfriend into a piece of furniture. Miller’s girlfriend’s friend responded to the home to help.
Atchison man sentenced to life in kidnapping case

Marcas McGowan, 32, Atchison, was sentenced last week in federal court to life in prison without parole on one count of kidnapping resulting in death of a 5-year-old-girl and a 10-year sentence for one count discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.44

Santa Claus visits the area with a stop from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at Linwood Library. He will ride in on a firetruck at noon and be ready to visit with children right after. Mrs. Claus will also be on hand. The event will also include some craft activities and cookies to munch on.

It’s time for the 13th annual Madrigal Feaste, as students entertain guests with music while a meal of wasseyle coppes, potage and farthing weight weate loaf, wilde board, streng bene and rosta botata and royal fruit tartes will be served.
