Sunflower Stroll coming to Tonganoxie

The Sunflower Stroll is coming to Tonganoxie. Monica Gee with the Tonganoxie Business Association told the City Council on Monday of plans to entice visitors to the Grinter Farms sunflower fields to stop in Tonganoxie after their visit to the global attraction. Gee said the stroll was an effort to get something started in Tonganoxie around the time sunflowers are in bloom. She hopes the stroll grows into a festival or some time of event as time progresses.
Scrimmages, introductions to showcase many Tonganoxie High teams tonight

Tonganoxie High fall sports teams have gotten their first week of practice under their belts. Soon it will be time to showcase themselves for the first time in front of the home crowd. Red/White Scrimmages and Introductions will take place Thursday, with volleyball scrimmages running from 4-5:15 p.m. at the Tonganoxie High main gymnasium. The Tonganoxie Middle School football team then will scrimmage 5:45-6:45 p.m. at Beatty Field, with football introductions starting at 7 p.m.
Tonganoxie High soccer coming home

If the weather cooperates, the Tonganoxie High boys soccer team could start playing home games at Chieftain Park late next month. About a half dozen THS seniors spoke at Thursday’s Tonganoxie Recreation Commission board meeting about wanting to return to playing games at Chieftain Park.
Pathways to have open house Friday in Tonganoxie

The new Pathways learning center is ready to showcase its students in the coming weeks. Pathways is a new transition program for graduates 18-21 years of age. It opened this past Thursday in the former Tonganoxie Police station at 328 S. Delaware. To celebrate the new tenant in the downtown district, the Tonganoxie Chamber of Commerce will have a ribbon cutting ceremony. It’s part of an open house from 1-2 p.m. Friday at the center. Cake and punch will be served. The program, offered through the Tonganoxie Basehor-Linwood Special Education Cooperative, provides community based instruction to Basehor-Linwood and Tonganoxie high school students who received special education services during high school.
