New technology can come with plenty of needed troubleshooting and support, but a few Tonganoxie High School students are helping make those transitions go smoother. THS students Jackson Willis, Blake Phillips and Logan Neeld are the school district’s current Chromebook Crusaders — information technology interns who have helped the IT department with the integration of Chromebooks at the high school.

The U.S. Senate will not confirm Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback for a diplomatic post in the Trump administration before the end of the year, setting up the possibility that he may still be governor when the 2018 legislative session starts on Jan. 8.
Pink tractor creator, former VFW post commander dies

Local parade goers might remember a Tonganoxie fixture riding down the route on a restored tractor that was pretty in pink. Harold Denholm restored a red 1951 Farmall tractor with son, Greg, in honor of Harold’s wife and Greg’s mother, Aileen Denolm, who lost her battle with breast cancer in September 2007. It was known as Mom’s Tractor for many years because Aileen would mow with the tractor at least weekly on the family’s rural Tonganoxie farm.

As families celebrated Christmas with loved ones, area residents again worked to make the holidays a bit brighter for neighbors in need. Janet Stuke, volunteer for Good Shepherd Thrift Shop and Food Bank, said area residents have been generous.
Tonganoxie City Council reflects on outgoing members’ service

As the calendar turns to 2018, the landscape of local government also will be changing. For both Tonganoxie City Council and Tonganoxie USD 464 school board, three new faces each will be at meetings. On the city council, Rocky Himpel, Jamie Lawson and Loralee Stevens will be sworn in at a special 7 p.m. meeting Jan. 8 at council chambers.
