Tonganoxie High boys defeat Bishop Ward for a third straight victory The Tonganoxie boys basketball team picked up its third win in seven days with Friday’s 41-22 victory against Kansas City’s Bishop Ward High School. Head coach David Hillmon said he was proud of his team’s defensive performance, but expressed concern over the lack of energy and rebounding, especially early on in the game.2

The Tonganoxie girls basketball team picked up their second consecutive win, defeating Bishop Ward in Friday’s 45-42 overtime thriller. Despite dealing with a sickness that kept her out of practice and the starting lineup, senior Taylor Lee was able to make the most of her limited minutes, scoring 15 of her game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter and overtime.

Longtime educator Joe Coles has worked with schools in anti-bullying initiatives for some 20 years. He said it’s an ongoing battle, but the key is to form good habits. Coles said it takes 21 days to form a habit and that communication is key in schools — among students, teachers and administrators, between children and their parents and between parents and faculty.
