Leavenworth County Road 1 improvement project will cost just under $13 million. The county has committed $8 million in sales tax revenues, while the Kansas Turnpike Authority has said it would pay $2 million. The county was hopeful that another million would be coming from the federal government, but that was placed on hold following the November election.

Local inmate sentenced to more than 10 years

Lansing Correctional Facility inmate Scott Gilbert, 53, was sentenced to 130 months recently in Leavenworth County District Court for his aggravated escape from custody from Lansing Correctional Facility on May 10, 2013.
Leavenworth County Council on Aging offering outreach in new year

The Leavenworth County Council on Aging will provide community outreach monthly at Tonganoxie Public Library starting in February.
Tonganoxie High takes second place at Washburn Math Day

Tonganoxie High School sent its first crew of students last month to Washburn University to compete in their Math Day competition. THS was second runner-up in the 4A division by a point.
Leavenworth County United Way car drive extended to February

The United Way of Leavenworth County is extending its 2016 raffle contest. Tickets are $50 each and just 1,000 are being sold.
Pickin’ and Grinnin next week at Tonganoxie Friends Church
