Powerful Chieftains: Tonganoxie weightlifting teams take 3rd, 4th at state meet

It was another big finish to the Tonganoxie High boys and girls powerlifting teams. The THS boys team finished third and the girls fourth in the Class 4A state meet Saturday at Clay Center High School. Tonganoxie also had some impressive individual performances.
Tonganoxie residents face marijuana charges

Tonganoxie residents who face alleged marijuana charges are to appear in the coming weeks in Leavenworth County District Court. Jason Hinds, 44, and Karri Williamson, 30, face charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, cultivation of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia with the intent to distribute and no drug tax stamp.
Tonganoxie superintendent’s first court appearance is later this month in Linn County

A Tonganoxie USD 464 administrator will appear in court later this month for suspicion of failure to report abuse. Superintendent Chris Kleidosty is set for a first appearance at 9 a.m. March 22 in Linn County Court in Mound City.
Gallagher Park progress in Tonganoxie

A sign and a brick-laden gathering spot have helped Gallagher Park take shape, but more upgrades are planned for the Tonganoxie landmark. Kay Soetaert, part of the park’s citizen task force, said a kiosk and flagpole are in future plans, as are park benches. She said workers also will “level off some of the ground where it slopes and keep it open green space for events.”
Irish time in Tonganoxie with St. Pat’s Parade on tap Saturday

Tonganoxie eyes of all shades will be smiling Saturday. The community’s St. Patrick’s Parade returns with an 11 a.m. start time. The parade will take the traditional downtown route, starting at Main and Fourth streets and moving west along Fourth Street. A traveling trophy will be given out for the best overall float, while bobble head trophies will be given for the best boys and girls youth entries.
Taxes, education dominate legislative forum in Tonganoxie

Taxes and education dominated the first legislative update of the latest Statehouse session Saturday at Tonganoxie VFW Hall. Sen. Tom Holland, D-Baldwin City, Rep. Jim Karleskint, R-Tonganoxie and State School Board Member Janet Waugh of Kansas City, Kan., spoke during the forum.
