Tonganoxie High stages creepy, spooky musical with ‘Addams Family’

A cartoon, television and movie favorite about a quite quirky clan came to Tonganoxie in the form of a high school musical this past week. The Tonganoxie High School drama and music departments presented “The Addams Family: A New Musical Comedy” Thursday through Sunday.
Santa event Dec. 9 at Tonganoxie Middle School to benefit THS After-Prom

Youths can visit Kris Kringle next month in Tonganoxie. The annual Tonganoxie High School After Prom Breakfast with Santa Claus event will be 8:30-11:30 a.m. Dec. 9 at the Tonganoxie Middle School Commons Area. Cost is $5 per person (adults and children) and it Includes a pancakes and sausage breakfast. The price also includes a photo with Santa and a craft table for children. There also will be a silent auction. For more information, go to and search for “Breakfast with Santa” or “ths.bws.” Proceeds will go toward THS after-prom festivities.
Family Medicine of Tonganoxie open house is Thursday

Family Medicine of Tonganoxie invites the community to an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony this week at its newly expanded office. The open house will be 4-6 p.m. Thursday at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital primary care office, 410 Woodfield Drive in Tonganoxie.
Tonganoxie’s Victory Baptist Church open house to welcome new pastor Sunday

The Rev. Dean Fitzsimmons is the new pastor at Victory Baptist Church in Tonganoxie. Area residents are invited to get to know the new pastor during an open house this week. The event will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the church, 1302 West St. (U.S. Highway 24-40) in Tonganoxie. An event announcement can be found on the Victory Baptist Church Facebook page.
Tonganoxie High lands several on all-Kaw Valley League teams

Tonganoxie High had one of its most successful fall seasons in school history this year. THS football, soccer and cross country all were regional champs, while football and soccer also were league champions. The success translated into many individual selections for all-league teams.
Final election numbers for 2017 Tonganoxie City Council, USD 464 School Board races

The Tonganoxie City Council will have three new faces. With all precincts reporting, Jamie Lawson (409), Loralee Stevens (325) and Rocky Himpel (247) were the top three vote-getters Tuesday. Incumbent Jim Truesdell did not advance out of the August primaries. And on Tuesday, fellow incumbents Chris Donnelly and Andy Gilner also were defeated.
Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting is Saturday in downtown Tonganoxie

Downtown Tonganoxie will be the place to be for a festive Saturday. The annual Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting will take place 4-6 p.m. along Fourth Street. Musical performances, carriage rides, a DJ, food, youth activities and more are planned for this year’s event. The City Council Chambers, 321 Delaware, again will be transformed into a winter wonderland, as Santa will make a visit for children eager to see Kris Kringle and get their photos taken with the jolly elf.
Tonganoxie school board tours high school

Tonganoxie USD 464 school board, current and future, got an up-close look at some structural improvements and other challenges at Tonganoxie High School. The school board members, along with a handful of patrons toured Tonganoxie High School during the board’s regular meeting Monday. This month’s meeting took place at the Chieftain Room on the THS campus instead of the Tonganoxie Elementary School library so that the board could be at the campus to continue the meeting with the tour. Also on the tour were board members-elect Jim Bothwell, Chris Gratton and Karen K. Wake Bottary. The three won election this past week in the general election.
