KU donates two computers to Tonganoxie USD 464

The school board approved the donation of two iMacs from the University of Kansas at its Feb. 22 special meeting. The donated iMacs will be used to replace two older iMacs in the Mac Lab at Tonganoxie High School. The donated items are in good working order. No costs will be associated with the installation of the computers, according to school officials.
Tonganoxie to have school March 16 because of exhausted snow days

Tonganoxie USD 464 students will attend classes March 16 due to the district running out of allotted snow days built into the school calendar. The district must make up one day, so students will attend classes that day. It originally was a teacher work day. has used up its allotted snow days built into the school calendar.
Former Tonganoxie High School principal applies for board vacancy; potential candidates still welcome through March 8

Residents in the Tonganoxie USD 464 school district still can apply for the open candidate position on the school board. The notice of vacancy first was published Feb. 21 in The Mirror’s legal listings. The open period for accepting candidate applications is 15 days from that first publication.
Tonganoxie school board selects KASB to conduct superintendent search

The Kansas Association of School Boards will conduct the search for Tonganoxie’s next school district superintendent. The school board voted, 4-1, to hire KASB to do the search. Board members made the decision at a special meeting Wednesday, Feb. 28. Kaija Baldock cast the lone dissenting vote. Board President Amelia Brusven was absent.
Tonganoxie High basketball teams to face Piper in semifinals of 4A D-I substate

Tonganoxie High basketball swept Atchison in regular-season finales on Friday The THS girls (6-14) defeated AHS, 41-28, while the boys (5-15) dropped Atchison, 65-45. Atchison also will be in the same Class 4A Division I substate as Tonganoxie later this week at Basehor-Linwood.
Tonganoxie St. Patrick’s Parade marking No. 30

Want to get an early start on celebrating St. Patrick’s Day? Tonganoxie will be the place to be. This year’s big celebration — it’s the 30th annual parade — will start at 11 a.m. March 10 in downtown Tonganoxie. The parade always is the Saturday before St. Patrick’s Day. With this year’s St. Patrick’s Day falling on a Saturday, it will be the week before in Tonganoxie.
Harrell named for teacher of year award

Steve Harrell, Tonganoxie High School forensics and debate coach, has been selected as recipient of the 2017-18 National Federation of State High School Associations Outstanding Speech/Debate/Theatre Educator Award for Kansas.
Tonganoxie High wrestlers break school records, take 4th at state

The Tonganoxie High wrestling set a school record for medalists last year with three. On Saturday, the THS wrestling program found itself reaching another high in school history books at the Class 4A State Wrestling Championships at Tony’s Pizza Events Center in Salina. The Chieftains medaled five wrestlers out of seven who qualified for state this year.
McLouth High boys basketball advances to 3A substate semifinals

The McLouth High boys basketball team will have a chance to knock off the No. 1 seed in its Class 3A substate. No. 4 MHS (11-10) routed No. 5 Mission Valley, 58-35, Monday in a 3A quarterfinal game at McLouth.
