Tonganoxie wrestlers take sixth at De Soto Duals tournament
Tonganoxie High placed sixth out of 10 teams Saturday at the De Soto Duals tournament.
In pool play, THS opened against Lansing. The Lions won, 65-18, but THS bounced back in its next round. The Chieftains earned a tiebreaker victory after a 36-36 tie. The Chieftains then were on the losing end of a tiebreaker against Shawnee Mission North. The Indians won via tiebreaker after a 30-30 match.
Tonganoxie finished off pool play at 2-2 with a resounding 48-6 victory against Kansas City Washington.
In the placement matches, Tonganoxie faced Piper for fifth place. Piper won the dual, 48-27.
Lansing won the meet with a 40-28 victory against Seaman. Bonner Springs placed third with a 58-24 victory against Shawnee Mission North.
De Soto outlasted Wyandotte, 54-24, for seventh place and in the ninth-place dual, Shawnee Mission South defeated Washington, 48-21.
Tonganoxie was ranked No. 6 in Class 4A in the latest Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association rankings released Jan. 16.
Bonner Springs was No. 3 and Basehor-Linwood No. 7.
Tonganoxie junior Korbin Riedel was No. 3 at 138, senior Patterson Starcher No. 4 at 145 and sophomore Connor Searcy No. 3 at 195.
Tonganoxie’s next competition is 9 a.m. Saturday with the Baldwin Invitational.
Other teams joining Baldwin and Tonganoxie are Basehor-Linwood, Buhler, Burlington, Clay Center, Eudora, Goodland, Holton, Louisburg, Osawatomie, Prairie View, Santa Fe Trail, Smoky Valley, Spring Hill and Wamego.
