Residents gathered June 11 for adult bingo at Tonganoxie Publiic Library. Here are the winners: Janice Moore, Terry Willis, Linda Linnemann (2), Sandra Redding (3), Lois Covey, Rosie Oelschlaeger, Kay Bundy (2), Linda Hemphill, Patty Szini, Dorothy Resco, Sharon Faherty, and Marilyn Oxley. Blackout winners were Mildred Crouse, Don Fuhlhage and Richard Moore.
Kansas Minature Horse Club Show is Saturday in Tonganoxie

The 26th Annual Kansas Miniature Horse Club Fun Show is this weekend. The event starts at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds.

McLouth’s Fourth of July Fireworks Display will begin at dusk (approximately 9:30 p.m.). The best viewing will be from the Stan Braksick Sports Complex, sitting in the bleachers, looking east toward Rose Park. No personal fireworks are allowed. Enjoy an evening of family fun. Linwood News: Holiday closing; teen advice wanted; teen anime drawing club time change

The Linwood Community Library will be closed Wednesday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. There will also be no special Summer Reading programs during the week.

More than 300 plainsmen, fur traders and backwoodsmen traveling from 12 different states across the Midwest peddled wares, held rifle and pistol matches, and dressed in period clothing last week in an annual pre-1840s-style encampment, held for the first time five miles north west of McLouth. Teepees and lean-tos began popping up for this year’s festival June 12 on Bill Karl’s property. Among the 135 campsites in the encampment Friday, men, women and children were found practicing archery and fashioning colonial and pre-Civil War era crafts.
Kicking off the summer in Tonganoxie

The Tonganoxie Recreation Commission celebrated the start of summer with its annual Summer Kickoff Party on Saturday at Chieftain Park. Food and refreshments were served and youths got to make their way through an inflatable obstacle course. Some youths from the cast of “Peter Pan” performed a sneak peek of the play, which will be 6 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday at the Tonganoxie Performing Arts Center. The play is this year’s TRC summer theater production.
Large to remain on Tonganoxie Recreation Commission board in new seat

The Tonganoxie Recreation Commission board’s membership had another change last week. Lisa Large will continue to be on the board in its at-large position. During Thursday’s TRC board meeting, Steve Miller resigned from the at-large position.
