Riedel readying for college career at Arkansas-Little Rock

Korbin Riedel is headed to points south to continue his wrestling career in college, but he will be spending a lot of time competing on the West Coast with his new team. The 2019 Tonganoxie High graduate singed a National Letter of Intent to wrestle at Arkansas-Little Rock, which is a Division I program.

Tonganoxie golf tourney fundraiser to be played at Falcon Lakes

The fourth annual Tonganoxie Golf Tournament is coming up in late August. This year’s event will start at 1 p.m. Aug. 24 at Falcon Lakes. Proceeds from the four-person scramble will benefit Tonganoxie High School golf, basketball and softball programs. Forms are available on the school website, tong464.org.
Tonganoxie USD 464 Education Foundation offering NFL PLay Along contest

The Tonganoxie USD 464 Education Foundation is offering some added incentives to follow the National Football League this fall. The foundation is selling NFL Play Along tickets for the upcoming season. Funds raised will be used to support USD 464 schools, teachers and students. A $25 donation buys a single Play Along ticket good for the 17 weeks of the regular NFL season. Each ticket is unique with three different teams every week whose scores are added to determine a winner.
Leavenworth County asking for residents to take comprehensive plan survey before Sept. 1

Leavenworth County is creating a new comprehensive plan, and the county commission needs as much input as possible as it weighs priorities that are key to the county’s future growth and development. Residents are encouraged to take a five-minute survey about several issues important to the future growth of the county. The survey closes Sept. 1.
Chieftain Singers chosen for statewide education workshop

The Chieftain Singers vocal group at Tonganoxie High School has been selected to perform at the Kansas Music Educators Associations In-Service Workshop in February. The event also is where the Kansas All-State Choirs, Bands and Orchestras perform. There also will be workshops for all music educators across the state. Officials selected Tonganoxie from a group of top choirs, making the Chieftain Singers the first USD 464 performance group to earn the honor. The Chieftain Singers will be performing in front of music educators who teach at K-12 and college levels. THS vocal director Tom Gifford submitted an audition recording this past spring for the workshop. The Chieftain Singers will perform for 30 minutes at the workshop starting at 1 p.m. Feb. 28.
Tonganoxie Public LIbrary gets nomination for Best Library Branch

Council appoints Tonganoxie Planning Commission members

The Tonganoxie City Council selected two planning commission members from a list of nominees at Monday’s meeting. The council approved another term for Jake Dale and also appointed longtime resident Patricia Bitler.
