Tonganoxie population hits estimated 5,500 mark

Every incorporated city in Leavenworth County has seen an increase in population since the 2010 U.S. Census, according to population estimates released earlier this month. The estimates are from July 2018.
Tonganoxie City Fire Chief offers firework safety tips

Tents have popped up in Tonganoxie and surrounding towns and will be hubs of activity through July 4 for fireworks sales. Fireworks can be shot off within city limits from 8 a.m.-11 p.m. daily during the days of fireworks sales, which started Sunday and will conclude Thursday evening on Independence Day.
High waters at area lakes to hinder July 4 recreation

Jet skiing, tubing and most camping might be off limits this Independence Day at both Perry and Clinton lakes, where historically high waters are complicating holiday recreation.
Tidal Waves finish season against Eudora

The Tongie Tidal Waves finished up the season with Friday’s meet against Eudora at Tonganoxie Water Park. Tonganoxie had three meets this season, though the team was suppposed to compete in four. Inclement weather June 21 forced the cancellation of that meet. The Tidal Waves had 136 swimmers on the team this season.
Area communities ready for bang-up Thursday for Fourth of July celebrations

Tonganoxie residents will continue to light up the sky this week with fireworks. Though there is no official Independence Day celebration, residents can enjoy a fireworks display thanks to their neighbors throughout the town shooting off fireworks. Fireworks can be discharged until 11 p.m. today and Thursday.
