Tonganoxie High School students successfully stage ‘Seussical’

The Tonganoxie High School Drama and Music Departments presented three performances of “Seussical” this past week. Students performed Thursday and Saturday nights, with a matinee on Sunday. Cast members for the THS fall production were Casey Snyder as the Cat in the Hat, Joseph Fletcher as Jojo, Jacob Howell as Horton the Elephant, Lauren Lawson as Gertrude McFuzz, Emilie Crowley as Mayzie La Bird, Andrea Zesati as Sour Kangaroo, Chloe Ferguson as Young Kangraroo, Caden Phillips as Mayor of Who, Ashtin Barnes as Mrs. Mayor, James Works as the Grinch, Hunter Calovich as Vlad Vladikoff, Payton Lynn as Judge Yertle and Keira Bevelry and Sara Celeen as Things 1 and 2.
Farm Bureau presents quilts to Tonganoxie veterans

Farm Bureau Financial Services employees recognized their veteran colleagues for their military service, presenting them with handcrafted quilts. Kirk Pederson and Michael Wehmeyer, both of Tonganoxie, were among the employees who were presented with quilts during an event at the company’s regional office. The quilts, which were made by fellow employees, were given to veterans in honor of Veterans Day on Nov. 11. “These quilts are a token of our admiration and appreciation for your service,” said CEO Jim Brannen. “We thank you for defending the freedom of this great nation. “Words can never truly express how grateful we are, but I hope that each time you use these beautiful quilts, you remember that your sacrifices and your service have not gone unnoticed. It is an honor to call you my colleagues.”
Tonganoxie High ACT scores all above state average for 2019 grads

ACT scores have been released and 2019 Tonganoxie High School graduates tested above the state average across the board. The 2019 class had 84 seniors take the test. The 2015 class had 74, 2016 had 70 and then 2017 had the highest in the five-year period with 94. The 2018 class had 93 participants. State statistics show the number of seniors taking the ACT has steadily increased from 2015 (23,708) to 2019 (25,684).
Personnel, girls wrestling approved at Tonganoxie USD 464 meeting

The Tonganoxie USD 464 school board approved various personnel moves at its Nov. 12 meeting. Contract and work agreements were approved for Melissa Starr, Tonganoxie Middle School paraprofessional; Tiffany Trent, Tonganoxie High School paraprofessional; Susan Gieber, THS-West cashier/kitchen utility; Andrea Putthoff, transportation para; Margaret Estes, van driver; Malissa Selene, bus driver; and Christina Jeanin, assistant THS girls basketball coach. A new position, Tonganoxie Elementary School early childhood special education teacher starting in January, also was approved.
Mayor’s Tree Lighting festivities Saturday in downtown Tonganoxie

Children will get to see Santa and watch as the downtown Christmas tree lights up Saturday in Tonganoxie. The annual Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting festivities will be 4:30-8 p.m. at the downtown pocket park, Fourth and Delaware streets, along with nearby spots. Santa’s helpers again are decorating the City Council Chambers, 321 Delaware St., for a visit with Santa Claus. This year’s theme is Letters to Santa.
