A traveling exhibit that brings to life the history of the women’s suffrage movement in Kansas will visit towns across the state during the next 14 months in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment. One of those stops is Tonganoxie.

As Kansas continues to see spiking numbers of new COVID-19 cases, Gov. Laura Kelly didn’t mince words Monday afternoon. If the rate at which the deadly respiratory virus is spreading doesn’t slow — and soon — Kelly said she will have no other choice but to recommend that the state move back to Phase 2 of her Ad Astra reopening plan by next week.
Polls open Tuesday for primaries

The primary for the 2020 election is next week. Primaries are Tuesday, with polling sites set to be open 7 a.m.-7 p.m. that day. Local voters also can utilize advance ballot voting by making an appointment at the Leavenworth County Courthouse with the office of County Clerk Janet Klasinski at 913-684-0421.

Here’s a list of scholarships and awards announced during commencement exercises Saturday for the McLouth High School Class of 2020 at Stan Barksick Sports Complex in McLouth. Most of the scholarships already have been distributed to students.

It happened more than two months later than any of the 33 members of the McLouth High School Class of 2020 could have imagined, but those classmates now officially are MHS alumni. McLouth USD 342 officially held commencement exercises Saturday at Stan Braksick Sports Complex on a night when various speakers uttered a common theme: be kind.
Leavenworth sees COVID-19 active-case jump of 18, Basehor 12 in span of 1 week

Tonganoxie has six new COVID-19 cases in the past week, and now has three more active cases during that time. From July 20 to Monday, Tonganoxie went from 31 positive COVID-19 cases to 37, according to Leavenworth County Health Department statistics. Tonganoxie also was at 14 active cases as of July 20 and was at 17 a week later, as of this Monday’s numbers.
