Tonganoxie City Council approves pool closure for summer

Tonganoxie Water Park will not open this summer. City Council members voted to cancel activities this summer at the popular attraction. Tonganoxie joins several other local cities in closing their public swimming facilities due to the COVID-19 pandemic. City Manager George Brajkovic and Assistant City Manager Dan Porter presented various options for being open this summer in while adhering to social distancing regulations. But with many unknown variables and liability concerns, the council eventually voted against opening this summer.
Local officers assist with chase involving stolen vehicle

Leavenworth County Sheriff’s officers assisted with a pursuit involving a stolen Lexus thought to be involved in a homicide case that started May 12. Kansas Highway Patrol reqeusted assistance with the pursuit about 7 p.m. Saturday as the purusit entered Leavenworth County from Douglas County on Interstate-70.
Tonganoxie joins Click It or Ticket campaign

Drivers can expect increased police presence on the city streets as the Tonganoxie Police Department joins agencies across Kansas in enforcing traffic laws with a primary focus on occupant restraint. The increase in activity is in conjunction with the 2020 Kansas “Click it or Ticket” campaign. This campaign started Monday and continues through May 31. is made possible througha Kansas Department of Transportation grant. All motorists and passengers are encouraged to stay safe and use their seatbelts.
Sidewalk chalk event gets started in Tonganoxie

The Friends of the Tonganoxie Library are encouraging residents to participate in the Tonganoxie Super Duper Chalk Drawing contest while practicing proper social distancing.
Veterans groups placing flags for Memorial Day

Local veterans organizations are planning to observe Memorial Day again this year with U.S. flags flying at Tonganoxie cemeteries and other community locations, but no services are planned currently due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Tonganoxie American Legion Post 41 members will be placing small flags at the graves of veterans at Hubbel, Maple Grove and Sacred Heart cemeteries.
