Tonganoxie Community Historic Site will be the venue for the historical society’s history camp: Who Lived Here Before Us? The camp, open to youths entering grades 4-6 in the fall, will be 9 a.m.-noon starting Monday at the site and museum, 201 W. Washington St.

Wine walk, barbecue festival on tap this weekend in Tonganoxie, McLouth

The Storytelling Festival won’t be the only event going on this weekend in the area. Downtown merchants will be having a wine walk Saturday afternoon, while McLouth will be celebrating its 30th annual BBQ Blowout. The McLouth BBQ Blowout will be 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at Prairie Park near the Stan Braksick Sports Complex. Other activities also are planned at the McLouth Threshing Bee Grounds.
Honoring the fallen in Tonganoxie

Rainy conditions didn’t prevent local organizers from honoring fallen soldiers on Memorial Day at Maple Grove Cemetery south of Tonganoxie. American Legion Post 41 organized Monday’s ceremony, with Robert McWilliam and Dale Cleveland opening the ceremony with the playing of bagpipes. More than 40 area residents attended the ceremony on the north side of the cemetery.
Free summer food program starts today in Tonganoxie USD 464

Youths will be able to eat for free again this summer through the Tonganoxie USD 464 Food Service Program. Curbside grab-and-go meal kits will be available 10:45-11:45 a.m. on Wednesdays starting today and finishing up July 28. The kits will have five breakfasts and five lunches for any youths ages 18 and younger at the curbside offering at Tonganoxie Elementary School.
