Final Tonganoxie Farmers Market night of the season is Thursday

The Tonganoxie Farmers Market is about to wrap up its first season later this week. Shoppers will have a final chance to browse and purchase from 5-8 p.m. this Thursday outside the Tonganoxie Public Library, 217 E. Fourth St. The farmers market took place every Thursday starting in mid-May.
McLouth HIgh volleyball has No. 3 spot in 2A substate for now

McLouth High volleyball is in a good position with just two matches left in the regular season. The Bulldogs, at 20-7, have the No. 3 spot in the Oskaloosa substate as of Monday. Jefferson County North is the top seed at 23-5, while Jackson Heights is the No. 2 seed at 21-6.
Tonganoxie FFA qualifies for nationals in land events

Tonganoxie High FFA members are headed to nationals after competing Sept. 30 at the Northeast Area State Land and Homesite competition near Onaga. THS members won the land portion of the competition, earning them a spot at the national competition in May.
McLouth Happenings: Laughing Lunch next week; Haunted Hayrides;

A truck parade will honor the memory of a McLouth youth. The inaugural Corbin Mance Memorial Event will be a truck parade starting at 1 p.m. Oct. 16 on Union Street in downtown McLouth.

It was on the eve of Halloween in 1938 that Orson Welles aired his original broadcast of War of the Worlds that still lives on as a classic today. The Linwood Community Library is celebrating the book and its many adaptations this month with two programs.
Lansing inmate found guilty in aggravated escape case

A Lansing Correctional Facility inmate was found guilty of aggravated escape earlier last week in Leavenworth County District Court. Dustin Frank Robinson, 32, was found guilty Oct. 4.

Leadership Southern Leavenworth County application deadline extended to Friday; 2021-22 session starts next week

Leadership Southern Leavenworth County continues to accept applications for the 2021-22 session through Friday. LSLC is taking applications until the end of the day Friday. The first class is Wednesday, Oct. 20. The group meets monthly through next April, with a graduation luncheon set for next May.
Second Harvest mobile food pantry’s next Tonganoxie visit is Thursday

The Second Harvest Mobile Food Truck will be coming Thursday to Tonganoxie. Second Harvest delivers food for pickup the second Thursday of each month to the Cornerstone Family Worship parking lot, 205 E. U.S. Highway 24-40. All residents are eligible to pick up food. Second Harvest allows each vehicle to pick up food for up to five families.
Tonganoxie High volleyball stumbles against slew of ranked foes at De Soto

Tonganoxie volleyball has just a few more matches left before the postseason. THS is 13-19 on the season after Saturday’s De Soto Spikefest and a Frontier League match Monday. The Chieftains, who had played well in tournaments heading into Saturday’s invitational, had a rougher go at De Soto. THS went 0-4, dropping matches to Mill Valley, Eudora, Blue Valley West and Free State.

Tonganoxie high school football was treated twice for Friday’s Homecoming, hosting Kansas City football star Marcus Allen and winning a victory over cross highway rivals, Basehor-Linwood, beating the Bobcats 30-13. Allen, co-owner of Marcus Allen Ford, Tonganoxie, made a cameo appearance at Beatty Field to crown the Queen, Jenny Walker.
Active COVID-19 cases down in Leavenworth County

Leavenworth County had 111 new positive community cases between Sept. 27 and Oct. 4, with 86 being unvaccinated people and 30 being vaccinated. There were six people being hospitalized in the county as of Oct. 4, with all being unvaccinated.
Fall events, Halloween activities aplenty being planned

Halloween events and other fall festivities are being planned this month in the Tonganoxie area. Friends of the Tonganoxie Library is having a lawn decorating contest this Halloween season in Tonganoxie. Participants can donate $10 and their address will be listed on a map of “spooky” residences that will be available online and at the library. The public will vote on the best decorated yards and the most popular house will win half of the prize money, a special award and of course, bragging rights. The entry deadline is Friday.
