- Cornerstone Family Worship had services for 329 Sundays at the Tonganoxie Performing Arts Center on the Tonganoxie High School campus. Some church members would be there, sometimes before dawn, getting the space ready for services. To break down that number down even more, that’s a bit more than six years of the church’s congregation meeting there Sunday after Sunday. But who’s counting?

- Cornerstone Family Worship has a new home and its ready to celebrate it with the community. The church will have a grand opening ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. The Rev. Ron Swaim invites the community to share in the church’s celebration at 205 U.S. Highway 24-40.
- Tonganoxie’s Victory Baptist Church open house to welcome new pastor Sunday

- The Rev. Dean Fitzsimmons is the new pastor at Victory Baptist Church in Tonganoxie. Area residents are invited to get to know the new pastor during an open house this week. The event will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the church, 1302 West St. (U.S. Highway 24-40) in Tonganoxie. An event announcement can be found on the Victory Baptist Church Facebook page.
- Tonganoxie United Methodist Women chili and soup supper is Friday

- The United Methodist Women of Tonganoxie United Methodist Church are hosting a soup and chili supper Friday. Soup will be served from 4:30-7 p.m. Friday at Hughes Hall in the Tonganoxie UMC basement. For a free-will offering, you get your choice of sopu or chili, a dessert and drink. Proceeds will go toward mission work.

- Lesbian Methodist pastor leaves Edgerton church on involuntary leave to avoid trial

- A lesbian pastor has agreed to go on involuntary leave from her United Methodist Church in Edgerton to avoid a church trial over her sexual orientation. Cynthia Meyer and Methodist officials agreed in early August that her leave will begin Wednesday. Her final sermon in Edgerton was Sunday. No other United Methodist church will be able to appoint her as a pastor but churches could hire her to “perform functions equivalent to a lay staff person,” according to the agreement.
- Soles for souls: Tonganoxie church collects shoes to raise money for religious studies

- Boots and many other types of shoes donated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church were made for walking. It turns out those shoes also were made to raise a good chunk of change for education programs at the church. Several volunteers helped religious education coordinators Nancy Lanza and Jennifer Eastes on Saturday with loading those donated shoes — about 175 bags to be exact — for Funds2Orgs, a company that trades shoes for money in group’s fundraising campaigns.

- The Tonganoxie City Council held off on a decision on Cornerstone Family Worship’s excise tax exemption request. The Rev. Ron Swaim, pastor for Cornerstone Family Worship, spoke to the council during Monday’s regular city council meeting. Swaim’s congregation will have a new church where the Sunset Motel formerly stood near the U.S. Highway 24-40 curve across from Tonganoxie High School’s east campus to the northwest.

- Fish dinners will be served 4-7 p.m. each Friday during Lent at the Sacred Heart Parish Center. The full-course dinner includes fried catfish, baked pollock, a vegetable, salad, dessert and drink. Cost is $8.50 for adults younger than 60 and youths older than 12, $8 for senior citizens 60, $3 for children ages 5-12 and free for children 4 and younger.
