Tonganoxie forensics team wins overall titles in frist weekend of competition

The Tonganoxie High School forensics team traveled for its first competition of the 2016 season. The squad captured two sweepstakes victories, winning both the Gardner-Edgerton Invitational and the McLouth Invitational. Additionally, the team had a solid two-day showing at the Lansing Invitational. There were 30 students who medaled during the weekend, including five events that finished in position to qualify for state at the end of the season.
Tonganoxie USD 464 receives one bid for former elementary school

The future of Tonganoxie’s former elementary school could be decided Monday. Tonganoxie USD 464 is expected to make a decision on the winning bidder at Monday’s Tonganoxie School Board meeting, though only one bid was submitted, Superintendent Lyn Rantz said Tuesday.

Tonganoxie Elementary School kicked off its new Royals Reading Challenge with someone whose become a bit of a celebrity at Kauffman Stadium. KayCee, the old-time baseball player who brings out the “W” after every Royals victory, spoke to TES students Friday afternoon.

Some 430 Tonganoxie Elementary School students made their way through the small intestine Thursday at the TES gymnasium. The Body Venture exhibit returned to the school for another year, as students in grades 2-4 made their way through the various stations in the exhibit.

Before getting into the heart of its meeting Monday, the Tonganoxie School Board took time to recognize Debbie Becker for her years of service in the school district. Becker, a secretary at Tonganoxie Elementary School, retired after 25 years with the district. She stayed for the transition to the new TES this year and officially retired in recent weeks.
Madrigal Feaste brings in more than 400 for this year’s two-night holiday event

Another Madrigal Feaste has concluded in Tonganoxie. And yet again, large crowds filled the Tonganoxie Middle School commons area for the annual event. More than 400 people attended the two nights of food and merriment. The Tonganoxie High School Vocal Department again performed for the THS Madrigal Feaste, which was Friday and Saturday at TMS.

TES second-grader honored at Chiefs game, could advance to nationals

A Tonganoxie Elementary School student won his division in the NFL Punt, Pass and Kick Team Championships and was recognized Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium. Patrick Griffin, a second-grader at TES, won the 6-7 age-group division. Patrick received a game ball trophy during pregame activities Sunday. The Kansas City Chiefs were hosting the Buffalo Bills in a game the Chiefs won, 30-22. Now 6-5, Kansas City won its fifth consecutive game.
