Tonganoxie USD 464 selects HVAC company from Lenexa for maintenance work

The Tonganoxie USD 464 School Board has selected a contract for repairs on heating, ventilation and air conditioning maintenance. During a special meeting Monday, the board selected P1 for its annual preventative maintenance cost. The board selected P1, which had a bid of $63,535.
Tonganoxie High Science Olympiad team wins first regional in school history

The Tonganoxie High School Science Olympiad has one championship under its belt and is looking to secure an even bigger one next month. The THS Science Olympiad won first place for the Kansas Science Olympiads northeast regional competition Saturday at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park.

Rantz to resign in June as Tonganoxie USD 464 superintendent

Tonganoxie USD 464 again will be searching for a new superintendent. Lyn Rantz, the district’s administrator since 2014, plans to resign at the end of June. Rantz provided The Mirror with a copy of her resignation letter to the board this afternoon.

The Mirror has two Tonganoxie High School students serving as interns this school year. Emma DeMaranville and Ben Lanza, both seniors at THS, are serving as interns for the spring semester. Tonganoxie High forensics nabs more state qualifications at Baldwin, Lawrence

The Tonganoxie High debate team added seven new state champ qualifications over the weekend and a sweepstakes championship. At Baldwin the team won the sweepstakes championship in a 15 school field. Individual finishes included junior Matt Scharff’s state qualification in prose interp with a second place finish. Senior Josh Lingo finished fourth in prose interp. Senior Kelly Robinson gathered two state champ qualifications with second place finishes in poetry interp and informative speaking.
Tonganoxie High School to celebrate National FFA Week starting Monday

The Tonganoxie FFA Chapter will celebrate National FFA Week next week with a host of events, including its annual breakfast. Spirit days this year are College Team Day on Monday, Tacky Tourist Day on Tuesday and A Walk Through the Ages on Wednesday, Feb. 24. For that day, Freshmen encouraged to dress as babies, sophomores as toddlers, juniors as adults and seniors as senior citizens.
Tonganoxie USD 464 transportation department commended; current pay-to-ride fees debated

Melissa Ostermeyer opened her transportation report Monday night at the Tonganoxie USD 464 school board meeting with a poem from a Quinter bus driver. The poem explains how bus driving sometimes can be a tedious and thankless job, but one that is well worth it.
Board approves sale of former Tonganoxie Elementary School

The former Tonganoxie Elementary School will serve a new purpose. Tonganoxie School Board members approved, 6-1, a bid for $76,101 from Pat Studer of the Kansas City area. According to district officials, Studer is looking to repurpose the property as a cabinetry business.

Tonganoxie forensics team wins overall titles in frist weekend of competition

The Tonganoxie High School forensics team traveled for its first competition of the 2016 season. The squad captured two sweepstakes victories, winning both the Gardner-Edgerton Invitational and the McLouth Invitational. Additionally, the team had a solid two-day showing at the Lansing Invitational. There were 30 students who medaled during the weekend, including five events that finished in position to qualify for state at the end of the season.
