Wind causes problems for THS golf team in Topeka

The wind didn’t do the Tonganoxie High golf team any favors Monday at the Hayden Invitational in Topeka. THS placed 12th out of 13 teams with a team score of 428.

The Tonganoxie High golf team opened its season April 8 with the Mill Valley Invitational. The team placed 13th out of 17 teams. Matt Scharff led THS golfers with an 80, while Ben Lanza shot a 99, Dawson Jones a 101 and Noah Arthoad a 103. Heath Martin finished with a 113.
Mill Valley proves to be too much for THS baseball

The Tonganoxie High baseball team looked primed to get a victory against Kaw Valley League powerhouse Mill Valley on Thursday at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds. THS fell in the opening game, 11-2, but started to get things going late in that game, which seemed to carry over into game 2.
Chieftain soccer falls at home after strong week

The elements haven’t been that inviting on the Tonganoxie High soccer team’s home field. There have been a few games in which the team has had to battle into the wind. Monday was no different as the Chieftains fell, 5-0, to Baldwin at the THS soccer complex. The Bulldogs got up early on THS and never looked back. BHS scored three goals in the first half and then dropped in another couple goals in the second half for the shutout victory.
Tonganoxie softball’s offensive domination

The Tonganoxie High softball team has shown early on that it can play in a slugfest. THS improved to 4-0 on the season with its doubleheader sweep April 15 against Bonner Springs. The Chieftains won, 11-1 and 22-13 on their way to the big doubleheader sweep. Bonner Springs opened the game with a 1-0 lead after an inning, but THS responded in a big way. The Chieftains scored five in the third inning and then four in the fourth. Another two runs in the fifth forced the mercy rule to be enacted and the Chieftains had an 11-1 victory in five innings.

THS baseball riding three-game winning streak

The Tonganoxie High baseball team made its way into the win column last Thursday with a 5-1 victory against Lansing. Tyler Novotney had a big performance on the mound. He threw a complete game and gave up just one run. The Chieftains put together a four-run third inning on their way to the victory.
McLouth High softball team stays perfect on year

The dominance continues for the McLouth High softball team. The Bulldogs defeated Riverside, 19-0 and 17-2, last week in Wathena before coming home and nabbing another sweep, 16-1 and 10-0, against Immaculata. MHS won the first game in four innings thanks to two big innings.
Tonganoxie High girls track 2nd, boys 4th at Bobcat Relays

In a preview of some teams Tonganoxie will face at league and regional meets, the Tonganoxie High girls held their own Friday at the Bobcat Relays. THS finished second with 125 points, just ahead of Anderson County (118.5). Basehor-Linwood scored a commanding team title with 194 points, but the Chieftains had several personal bests, according to coach Rachelle Pauly. “There were a lot of good, competitive times,” Pauly said.
McLouth HIgh baseball team sweeps Immaculata in doubleheader

McLouth High scored seven early runs and was able to hold on to win Game 1 of a doubleheader, 9-7, last week in baseball action against Immaculata. Senior pitcher Wyatt Hermann allowed just two earned runs while striking out five Raiders as he picked up his second win of the season.
Hall resigns at THS girls basketball coach

Tonganoxie High School girls basketball coach David Hall is stepping down after one season on the job, but the longtime coach said that was part of the plan when he was hired. Hall said Monday that when he initially discussed the job with THS athletics director Brandon Parker, they viewed the position as being a bridge between longtime coach Randy Kraft and a new coach after a year or two.

Hecht ready to begin Benedictine career

Carl Hecht had a big decision to make earlier this year. The Tonganoxie High senior could continue his football career in the junior college ranks or opt for a four-year school. Hecht chose the latter route, signing a national letter of intent with Benedictine College.
Tonganoxie High School track teams look to build on 2014

Jumping events are expected to be Tonganoxie High’s bread and butter on the boys team. First-year head coach Preston Troyer, who was the girls head coach last year, said THS should be among the best in the area in those events. “Honestly, in the jumps, I think we’ll be leading until the track events,” Troyer said. “We really just don’t have sprinters right now, girls or guys.”

The Tonganoxie High girls soccer team’s scoring came in rapid fire Wednesday in its season opener against Bishop Ward at THS. Tonganoxie scored three goals in fewer than 2 minutes on its way to a 7-0 shutout against the Cyclones. The Chieftains scored their first goal with 29:13 left in the first half on senior Morgan Galvin’s shot.
