McLouth High School is going Hollywood for this year’s homecoming festivities. This year’s theme is Stars of McLouth. Spirit dress-up days have a movie them, as students dressed up as superhero movie characters for Marvel Monday and horror movie characters on Terror Tuesday. Today is Wacky Wednesday, with students dressing up as animated movie characters.
Tonganoxie High volleyball team starts another winning streak

The Tonganoxie High volleyball team had a hiccup in its recent winning streak, but got back in the win column Thursday. Tonganoxie lost Sept. 29 to Lansing in three sets, 25-14, 25-11, 25-23, but bounced back against Sumner Academy and Spring Hill on Thursday. The Chieftains won, 25-10, 25-17, against Sumner and then needed three sets to defeat Spring Hill, 22-25, 25-23, 25-18. The victories moved the Chieftains to 17-7 on the season.
McLouth gets regional, substate assignments

McLouth cross country and volleyball will be heading west for Class 2A regional and substate play. The boys and girls cross country teams will travel a considerable way for the Republic County regional Oct. 24 in Belleville. Bennington, Valley Heights, Canton-Galva, Herington, Hillsboro, Horton, Jackson Heights, McLouth, Troy, Valley Falls, Wabaunsee, Jefferson County North and Washington County will join McLouth and Republic County at the meet. The boys race is set to start at 11:30 a.m. and the girls race at 12:40 p.m. at the Belleville Country Club.
Tonganoxie football blanks Bishop Ward, 42-0

After two consecutive losses, the Tonganoxie High Chieftains looked like the team that started 2-0 in their 42-0 win against the Bishop Ward Cyclones. The victory improved the team to 3-2 on the season.

Tonganoxie defended its turf well last week at its home invitational. The THS girls team placed first overall and the boys squad second. Each team also had the top individual finisher. Tonganoxie finished with 23 points in the girls race, with Manhattan placing second with 48 and Wamego third with 53. Bishop Seabury placed fourth with 105 points. Pleasant Ridge, Bishop Ward, Wyandotte and JC Harmon also had runners compete in the race.
KSHSAA rolls out new classifications for schools

Tonganoxie will continue to remain where it is for high school classification, according to results the Kansas High School Activities Association recently released. McLouth, meanwhile, will move down a class for football.
De Soto hands Tonganoxie football second straight loss

Tonganoxie High football coach Al Troyer confirmed what everybody in attendance saw Friday night: His team got bullied up front in a 26-6 loss to the De Soto Wildcats in De Soto. “We have to be more physical,” Troyer said. “We didn’t get the job done up front and we had to hurry everything because we couldn’t block their nose guard.”

Jackson Heights football rolls against McLouth, 46-8

The McLouth High football team will look to bounce back from its 46-8 setback Friday against Jackson Heights. The Bulldogs weren’t able to get much going against the Cobras in a game played on the JHHS campus near Holton. Now 1-2 on the season, MHS will look to bounce back with Friday’s home game against Royal Valley at the Stan Braksick Sports Complex in McLouth.

Anyone wanting to take in some thrilling sporting events might want to check the Tonganoxie High volleyball home schedule. Though the Chieftains lost another tough match in five sets last week, the squad had archrival Basehor-Linwood on the ropes last week at the THS gymnasium.

Had the Chieftains not turned it on early in the second half, the two could have waited to finish the game or find a different day to resume play if it had gone to extra time.

Lansing spoils Tonganoxie homecoming game with big second half

With the first quarter winding down Friday at Beatty Field, Tonganoxie elected to go for the touchdown on fourth-and-goal from the two-yard line. Junior running back Jordan Brown was stuffed and the Chieftains turned the ball over on downs. It would be a long time before the Chieftains put together another quality drive in a 35-6 loss to the Lansing Lions. The loss dropped THS to 2-1 on the season. The Chieftains struggled offensively with just 186 total yards, while the Lions had an impressive 398 yards of total offense.
Tonganoxie football holds on again after big lead for 2nd victory of season

Through three quarters, the Tonganoxie High football team dominated Turner on its way to a 42-12 lead. Like week one, when the Chieftains almost blew a 24-point lead, they allowed the Bears to rally in the fourth quarter Friday, but were able to hang on for their second win of the season.
