Helen C. Eibes 1927 - 2008 Tonganoxie
Funeral Mass for Helen Catherine (Peterson) Eibes, 80, Tonganoxie, will be at 10 a.m., Monday, April 21, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Tonganoxie with burial to follow in Holy Angels Cemetery, Basehor.
Mrs. Eibes died Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at Tonganoxie Nursing Home.
She was born Nov. 20, 1927, in Linwood, the daughter of Harvey C. and Louise C. (Elmer) Peterson. She attended St. Mary's College and taught in rural Leavenworth County in a one-room schoolhouse.
Mrs. Eibes was a member of the Altar Society and taught CCD classes. She was a member and later an adult leader in 4-H for many years. Helen had worked at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Tonganoxie Grade and High School as a cook. She volunteered at Providence Hospital, KCK Food Kitchen, and in the one-room schoolhouse at the Ag Hall of Fame. She was a member of the Women's Democratic Club and worked on the Election Board, where she served as Treasure. She lived at the Nettleton Manor in Bonner Springs for more than 10 years, where she served as the secretary/treasurer with her lifelong friend Betty Pogue.
She helped to start the water district in rural Leavenworth County and was a member of several senior clubs in the area.
She was married to Charles E. Eibes in 1951. He died in 1994.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan Stevens, Roeland Park, and Judy Smyth, Tonganoxie; two sons, Chuck Eibes, McLouth, and Gene Eibes, Tonganoxie; five grandsonsl two brothers, Ed and Charles Peterson; and a host of extended family and friends.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 20, with a rosary service at 3:30 p.m. at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs.
The family suggests memorials to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund, sent in care of the funeral home, 14 Oak St. Bonner Springs, KS 66012.
