Richard E. Montgomery 1919 - 2009

Tonganoxie — Funeral services for Richard E. "Monty" Montgomery, 89, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 21, at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N 94th St., Kansas City, Kan. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Montgomery died Monday, March 16, 2009, at Tonganoxie Nursing Center, where he lived. He was born Dec. 17, 1919, to Levi Franklin and Gertrude (Rodgers) Montgomery in Kansas City, Kan. He graduated from Argentine High School, before serving in the Army Air Corp during World War II., and had lived in the Kansas City area most of his life.
He was an expediter for Fairbanks-Morse for 35 years before retiring in 1985. Monty loved hunting, fishing, bowling and gardening. He was a member of Tonganoxie United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by first wife, Bertha Marie Montgomery, in 1996.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Marie Montgomery, of Tonganoxie; two sons, Dick Montgomery of Gladstone, Mo., and Bill Montgomery of Tonganoxie; a daughter, Martha Judy Forbach of Tonganoxie; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
