Donald F. Gaskey 1923 - 2009 Tonganoxie
Services with military rites for Donald F. Gaskey, 85, Tonganoxie, formerly of Concordia, Mo., will be 6 p.m. Thursday, April 2 at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Concordia, Mo., with William W. Harlow officiating.
Cremation will take place after the service, with inurnment at a later date in New Hope Cemetery near Concordia.
Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Gaskey died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at his home.
He was born Dec.16, 1923, in Concordia, Mo. He was the son of the late John Gaskey and Deborah Kresse Gaskey.
Mr. Gaskey was raised in Concordia where he was a 1941 graduate of Concordia High School.
From 1942 to 1946, he served his country with honor as a P.T. boater in the United States Navy. Following his honorable discharge in 1946, he began a career as a ticket agent with Greyhound Bus Company. That lasted more than 40 years in the Kansas City area, where he remained until his health declined. He then moved to Tonganoxie, where he became a member of the Tonganoxie VFW Post.
Survivors include one son, John Gaskey, Tonganoxie; a daughter, Jean Gaskey, Kansas City, Kan.; four grandsons; three great-granddaughters; a sister, Meredith Taylor of Raymore, Mo.; as well as two nieces.
He was preceded in death by one niece.
