Donald L. Waterman 1930 - 2009 Tonganoxie

Services for Donald L. Waterman, 78, Tonganoxie, will be 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 7, at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Washington, Kan.
Burial will be in Washington City Cemetery.
Mr. Waterman died Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at Tonganoxie Nursing Center.
He was born Nov. 22, 1930, in Greenleaf, the son of Harmon C. and Dora S. (Lohmeyer) Waterman.
On May 17, 1952, he married Mary Rice in Carlsbad, Calif. She died Dec. 19, 2008.
Mr. Waterman, a Marine veteran of the Korean War, was former publisher of several newspapers, including The Tonganoxie Mirror, Ulysses News and The Osceola Record (Neb.).
He was active in the Kansas Press Association, in which he served as secretary. His newspapers won many state and national awards for excellence.
During his lifetime, Mr. Waterman had many hobbies and interests. He was a pilot and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He rarely missed a sporting event or a school program.
He was preceded in death by his wife; sister Betty Brenner; and brothers, Louis and Lowell.
Survivors include three children, Debbie Johnson and husband, Mike, Tonganoxie, Susan Waterman and Ignacio Vaca, Bonner Springs, and Brian Waterman, Bonner Springs; and four grandchildren.
