Darrel A. "Pete" Smoots 1922 - 2010

Services for Darrel A. “Pete” Smoots, 87, McLouth, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, at McLouth Baptist Church.
Burial will follow in Fall Creek Cemetery, Jarbalo. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Quisenberry Funeral Home.
Mr. Smoots died Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at the VA Medical Center, Leavenworth.
He was born Feb. 2, 1922, in a farmhouse southwest of McLouth in Jefferson County. He was the third and youngest child of Edward and Flossie (Trackwell) Smoots. He attended Wild Horse country school and graduated from McLouth High School in 1939. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served in the Pacific Theater at Hawaii and Eniwetok. He married Ione Angell on Nov. 14, 1944, in Kansas City, Kan. After the war he became a dairy and crop farmer near McLouth. Together he and Ione raised five sons. His brother, Don Smoots, preceded him in death.
He is survived by; his wife, Ione Smoots, of the home; five sons, Mike Smoots, Pueblo, Colo., Rick Smoots, McLouth, Greg Smoots, Portland, Ore., Dan Smoots, Emporia, and Tim Smoots, McLouth; one sister, Violet White, Topeka, KS; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
