Services for Lawrence (Larry) Harris Malloy, III, 56, Tonganoxie, formerly of Quaker Hill, Conn., were Tuesday, March 2, at the Tonganoxie United Methodist Church.
Burial was in Westlawn Memorial Cemetery, Topeka.
Mr. Malloy died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan.
He was born Aug. 29, 1953 in New London, Conn., the son of Lawrence Malloy, Jr. and Helen M. Staplin Malloy. He attended Waterford, Conn., schools. Mr. Malloy worked throughout his life on the boats of Malloy and Sons Oyster Company, Quaker Hill, Conn. He also worked for seven years at Groton Motor Inn, Groton, Conn. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Tonganoxie. Mr. Malloy was an athlete and was the first bronze decathlon winner of the first national Special Olympics held in Boston in 1968. He was awarded his medal by Mrs. Eunice (Kennedy) Shriver.
Survivors include two brothers, Wayne Malloy, Osage City, and Henry Malloy, Waterford, Conn.; two sisters, Carol Earl, Conover, N.C. and Donna Stockton, Tonganoxie.
