Services for Brian E. Kuiper, 71, Granville, Iowa, were Monday, April 4, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville, Iowa.
Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Mr. Kuiper died Friday, April 1, 2011, at his.
He was born Dec. 28, 1939, in rural Ashton, Iowa, the son of Margaret Leone (Conley) and Daniel Kuiper. He was raised and educated in the Ashton area and graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1958. After graduating he moved to Idaho and worked as a forest firefighter. He later moved back to Iowa and attended Sioux City Barber College. Upon graduation he worked as a barber for a number of years in Granville and Hospers.
Mr. Kuiper sold veterinary supplies, then spent the majority of his career in the agriculture business. Most recently he worked at the Sheldon Co-Op.
Mr. Kuiper was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a former Granville City Council member, having the distinction at the time of being the youngest elected council member in Iowa. He served as a volunteer firefighter.
On Sept. 7, 1964, he married Marlene Schuster at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include three daughters, Sandra (Jim) Reding, Omaha, Neb.; Lynne (Matt) Stallbaumer, Linwood, Kan.; Aimee (Jason) Messerschmidt, Missouri Valley, Iowa; a son, Jason (Trisha) Kuiper, Omaha, Neb.; 11 grandchildren: two brothers, Gary (Judy) Kuiper, Mead, Wash., and Doug (Pat) Kuiper, Alexandria, Minn.; a sister, Debbie Pippen, Phoenix; and two sisters-in-law, JoAnn “Tudy” (Mark) Plathe, Granville, and Norma Jean Schuster of LeMars, Iowa.
