James Chaney
Services for James O. “Joe” Chaney, 70, Linwood, will be 1:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, April 13, at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial will be in Lawrence.
Mr. Chaney died Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Kansas University Hospital in Kansas City, Kan.
He was born Feb. 18, 1941, in Welch, Okla., the son of Roy N. and Rosa Williams Chaney. He was a 1959 graduate of Lawrence High School.
He was a retired electrician and also a farmer/stockman in the Linwood area. He formerly worked for the Lawrence Journal-World, the Bendix Corporation and he retired from the Colgate Palmolive Corporation in 1994.
He was a member of the I.B.E.W. Local No. 124 in Kansas City, Mo., and the Linwood Lions Club. He served as a volunteer on the Linwood Sherman Township Fire Department, on the Board of Directors of the Leavenworth County Water District No. 10 and he was treasurer of the Linwood Development Corporation.
He is survived by four brothers: Marvin (Virginia) Chaney, Wellsville, Roy (Marilyn) Chaney, Lawrence, Richard (Kathy) Chaney, Lawrence, and John (Mary) Chaney, Lawrence; a sister-in-law, Sharon Chaney, of Lawrence, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by a sister, Sharon Louise Chaney, and a brother, Donald Chaney.
The family suggests memorials in his name to the American Diabetes Association or to the Linwood Lions Club and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
