Hazel H. Fry 1921 - 2012 Lawrence

Funeral service for Hazel H. Fry, 91, Lawrence, were held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2012, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery. She died March 21, 2012, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born on March 6, 1921, in Winchester, KS the daughter of Raymond S. Connelly and Ina May Courtney Connelly.
During World War II at the age of 21 she moved to Santa Monica, California, and took a job as “Rosie the Riveter,” helping to assemble airplanes for the war effort. She then moved back to Lawrence, KS and was a homemaker and retired bookkeeper of 17 1/2 years from Owens Flower Shop.
Hazel married Cecil Fry on October 25, 1962, in Lawrence and they were happily married for 23 years until his death on June 29, 1985.
Survivors include a son, Robert, Lawrence; daughter, Deloris, Gardner; brother, Marvin Connelly, McLouth; three grandchildren, Angie, Janell and Dawn; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Francis Connelly.
She lied-in-state Sunday, March 25, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Hazel H. Fry Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
