Norma VanDyke

Norma Lee VanDyke, 75, formerly of Tonganoxie, Kansas, passed away at her home in Mesa, Arizona, after a courageous battle against cancer.
Her funeral service will be held at 10am on Thursday, June 20th, at the Tonganoxie Christian Church. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Wednesday, June 19th, at Quisenberry Funeral Home in Tonganoxie, Kansas. Burial at Hubbel Hill Cemetery will follow the funeral.
Norma was born on March 14, 1938, to Richard and Edna Verhage. On January 22, 1955, she married the love of her life, Franklin Doyle VanDyke; they were married 53 years until his passing on January 23, 2008.
Norma was a long-time member of the Tonganoxie Christian Church. Prior to retirement from the First State Bank of Tonganoxie in December 1995, she was employed by the Tonganoxie School District.
Norma and Doyle were members of the Good Sam’s Tiblow Camping Club for many years, and enjoyed camping and traveling in their motor home with family and friends. The family will always cherish the memories of our fun and adventurous camping and boating trips to the lakes. In recent years, Norma enjoyed her new home and activities at Las Palmas Grand in Mesa. She was blessed with many new and dear friends in the Las Palmas community. More than anything, Norma loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-granddaughter.
Norma is survived by: son John (Rick) VanDyke and wife Paula of Sugar Land, Texas; son David VanDyke and wife Pam of Chandler, Arizona; daughter Beverly VanDyke of Mesa, Arizona; daughter Brendia Falk and husband Dave of Richmond, Texas; grandson Eric VanDyke and wife Kim and great-granddaughter Aubree of Racine, Wisconsin; grandson Brett VanDyke of Overland Park, Kansas; and granddaughters Erica and Breanna VanDyke of Sugar Land, Texas.
Other survivors include five sisters, Shirley Schultz of Lawrence, Kansas; Joan Vance of Edwardsville, Illinois; Betty Earls and husband Don of Lawrence, Kansas; Donna Throop and husband Jim of Elizabeth, Colorado; and Janice Myracle and husband Gene of Lansing, Kansas; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and other family and friends.
Norma is preceded in death by her husband Doyle, and her parents Richard and Edna Verhage. She will be long remembered for her selfless caring of family and others in need, her kindness, her home-cooked meals, and her unwavering dedication to her faith in Jesus.
