James Bebb

James R. Bebb passed away April 19, 2013 after complications with Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS). He was born July 12, 1950 in Superior, WI and moved to Pittsburg, KS in 1953 where he graduated from College High School in 1968. He graduated from the University of Kansas, Lawrence in 1973 with a BS in Business Administration. He obtained his MBA from Pittsburg State University in 1984. Jim worked at The Federal Reserve Bank in Kansas City, MO; First State Bank, Pittsburg, KS; M Bank, El Paso, TX; Mercantile Bank and Arvest Bank in Joplin, MO; and finally Community National Bank in Basehor, KS. He retired April 2012 from Community National Bank in Basehor, KS, culminating a 30-year banking career.
Jim married his high school sweetheart, Peggy Joyce Hudiburg on May 27, 1972 and served in the Army from Sept. 1972 to August of 1975 working in finance and payroll. He initially was stationed at Fort Riley, KS then went on to serve the 44th Finance Group in Karlsruhe, Germany.
Jim was an active volunteer and servant to his communities with a special interest in youth programs. He spent 20 years in Boy Scouts serving as both Committee Chair and Assistant Leader, was involved with church youth programs and mission trips, and was a certified Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for Wyandotte County. Jim served on the Joplin Chapter of American Institute of Banking; Art Councils in Pittsburg and Joplin; and the Chamber of Commerce Board in Basehor. Throughout his life, Jim was active in his local church serving in many capacities. He and Peggy are members of the Basehor United Methodist Church.
Jim’s hobbies included fly-fishing, hunting, backpacking, and gardening. Jim was active in and president of (2010-11) Heart of America Fly Fishers, local chapter of Federation of Fly Fishers. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Joyce Hudiburg, mother, Maxine Bebb, and older sister, Beth Herman. He is survived by his father, Dr. Aldon M. Bebb, father-in-law, Dr. George Hudiburg, younger sister, Margaret Bebb Neil, wife Peggy, son Bryan Bebb, daughter Jessie Bebb Kane, son-in-law Adam Kane, 9 nieces and nephews, and brothers and sisters-in-law.
A casual memorial service will be held April 29, 2013 at Basehor United Methodist Church, 18660 158th St, Bonner Springs KS 66012 with visitation 10-11; Service 11-Noon; and conversation/food after the service. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested a donation be made to BUMC with Jim Bebb listed in the memo line for Youth Scholarship.
