Geneva Denholm

Geneva Anna Denholm, 95, of Manhattan, passed away Friday, July 8th, at Via Christi Hospital­ Manhattan.
Geneva was born on the family farm near Clyde, Kansas on December 1, 1920, the daughter of Emanuel and Edith (Peterson) Erickson. She was united in marriage on Nov. 18, 1951 to William D. Denholm, Jr, Past Potentate of the ISIS Shrine in Salina. He preceded her in death on Jan. 11, 2001.
Geneva attended Marcotte Rural Grade School, and graduated in 1938 from Clyde High School,Clyde, KS. She attended Strickler’s Business School in Topeka for 1 year, where she studied Stenography. In 1941 she began working as a secretary in the Agriculture Specialties office at the Kansas State Extension Service. In August of 1942, she began work at Ft. Riley in the Post Ordnance Office where she remained until her marriage in 1951. Following their marriage they moved to South Dakota, where she worked for the State Soil Conservation office in Huron. In January 1957 she returned to Manhattan and was again employed at Ft. Riley where she was secretary to the Commanding General for 13 years until her retirement in 1975. Her favorite social evenings were those dancing with Bill to beautiful music. Geneva and Bill were members of the First Congregational Church in Manhattan.
Geneva is also survived by her brothers­-in­-law, Harold A. Denholm, Tonganoxie; Dr. Byron E. Denholm, Hemet, CA; sisters­in­law, Wilma Gillespie, Leavenworth; Barbara Sluiter(Jack), Bay City, MI; Vivian M. Erickson, Clyde; nieces and nephews, Tom Erickson, Clifton; Margaret Raymond, Wichita; Janet Jones and Carol Sue Blecha, Belleville; Mike Gillespie, Leavenworth; Amy Wierda, Linwood, MI; Linda Sturgeon, Tonganoxie; Douglas Denholm, Hemet, CA; Judy Robinson, Fort Collins, CO; Gregg Denholm, Tonganoxie; Lori Vann, Virginia Beach, VA; David DeHoff, Glendale, TX and Carol Sellows, Everett, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; sisters, Clarice Barger and Gwendolyn Stevenson; brother, Lloyd E. Erickson; sisters­in­law, Jean Alice Denholm and Donna Ruth DeHoff.
The family will receive friends from 10:00am until the service at 11:00am, at the First Congregational Church, 700 W. Poyntz Ave., with Rev. Caela Simmons Wood officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Sunset Cemetery. The family requests donations to Shriner’s Children Hospital or First Congregational Church ­ Manhattan and may be sent to the Irvin­Parkview Funeral Home & Cremation, 1317 W. Poyntz Ave, Manhattan.
