Joseph Daniels, Sr 1918 - 2017 Lawrence, KS

Joseph Daniels, Sr., 98, of Lawrence, KS, formerly of Tonganoxie, KS, passed away September 5, 2017. Funeral service will be Friday September 8, 2017 at 10 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tonganoxie. The family will receive friends for 1 hour prior to the funeral mass. Burial will be in Holy Angels Cemetery, Basehor, KS. Joe was born October 18, 1918 in Kansas City, KS, to Gabriel and Louise Daniels. He had four siblings, Josephine Phillips, Rose Baughn, Gabriel Daniels, and Elizabeth Banzhaf, who have all preceded him in death. Joe grew up working in the family grocery store in Kansas City, KS. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Joe owned and operated a meat packing plant in Tonganoxie, and a grocery store in Basehor, KS. He also worked as a railroad switchman and as a manager of Hodge Brothers Lumber Co. Joe had been a long time farmer in Basehor. He and his first wife, Connie, had two sons Joseph, Jr. (Marilyn), and Phillip Daniels, both of Tonganoxie. Connie Survives at Country Care in Easton, KS. Joe married Bernadine Hobbs on February 14, 1986. Bernadine has 4 surviving children who became part of Joe’s beloved extended family: Jeanne Murray (Don Hildreth) of Stafford, TX, David Hobbs (Elizabeth) of Temperance, MI, Larry Hobbs of Dallas, TX, and Trish Hite (Harry) of Belton, MO. One son, Randy Hobbs, preceded Joe in death. Joe and Bernadine’s family includes 10 grandchildren, and 10 greatgrandchildren. Bernadine survives at Presbyterian Manor, Lawrence, KS.
