Donna Jean Watson Fields 1929 - 2018
Donna Jean Watson Fields 12/02/1929 – 08/11/2018 Donna Jean Fields, 88, died Saturday afternoon, August 11, 2018, at the Bonner Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation facility. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Howard Fields, and her daughters Suzy Fields (David) Armstrong, Patty Fields (Joe) Modig, and Peggy Fields (Joe) Defazio. She was preceded in death by her daughter Jean Fields Winchester, her parents William Luel & Ada Porter Watson, and her older brother, Norman Watson. Donna was a grandmother to ten grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren. She loved holding babies, and if one was available, it was likely in her arms. Donna loved music, sewing, reading and laughing her distinctive laugh. Her passion was music. She sang solos along with singing in quartets and choirs. For the majority of her life, Donna sang in both school and church performances. At one point in her life, she considered singing professionally. Thankfully for her family, she met Howard and changed her plans. Donna was also an accomplished seamstress and avid reader. She made clothes for most of the family at one time or another, including one daughter’s wedding dress. Donna’s love for reading instilled a love of reading in her children. She especially loved to read fiction and recipe books, which meant she was likely to have the perfect recipe for any occasion. Donna was very interested in education and research to ensure continued quality health care for future generations. As a result, her body was bequeathed to the University of Kansas School of Medicine. A Celebration of Donna’s life was held Saturday, August 18, 2018 at the Tonganoxie United Methodist Church.
