Robert Eugene Klinkenberg, 94, Tonganoxie, KS, passed away Sunday November 14, 2021.
Funeral service will be 1pm Friday November 19, 2021, at the Quisenberry Funeral Home, Tonganoxie. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral starting at 11 am. Burial will be in Hubbel Hill Cemetery.
Robert was born October 4, 1927, in Leavenworth, KS, the son of Edward and Edna (Grems) Klinkenberg. He was united in marriage to Charlotte (Kisker) Klinkenberg at St. Paul Lutheran Church in 1952. She survives of the home.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Eugenia Klinkenberg in 1955. He worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator in the Local Union #101. He retired from O’Donnell and Sons Construction. He served in the Merchant Marines before being drafted into the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a charter member of the Tonganoxie VFW Post #9271. He was a charter member of the McLouth Threshing Bee. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Leavenworth, KS. He was a caller and teacher for square dancing for 32 years with the Merry Mixers, Lawrence, KS, and the Tonga Twirlers, Tonganoxie. He also loved to play the guitar and sing. He was a lifelong farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte, of the home; one son, Robert M. and wife Helen Klinkenberg, Leavenworth, KS; one daughter, Debra and husband Charles Staples, Tonganoxie; one sister, Eleanor Lenahan, Tonganoxie; two grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to the Trinity Lutheran Church; or the Tonganoxie VFW Post #9271.
