What do you think of the county's decision to cull the deer herd with sharpshooters in Shawnee Mission Park?

Leon Logan ( in Shawnee) says...
“I support the JCPRD's Board decision to cull the herd of deer in SM Park using lethal means. Had I been on that Board, I would have supported allowing local sportsmen who could have used either rifles or archery. This would have been inexpensive to the County and provided enjoyment to those who like to hunt. I haven't heard any costs associated with using local law enforcement personnel for this task, however, I imagine that it will be substantial if they have to be trained and if they do it on paid on-duty time.”
Cathy Boch ( in Shawnee) says...
“Although it's sad, I feel the decision and technique voted by the board to bring the deer population under control is necessary. I have confidence that the park police and/or local police will ensure public safety during the process.”
Russ Revis ( in Shawnee) says...
“While I am disappointed that the deer population has been allowed to reach this point, I agree with the decision of the park board. I am hopeful that the measures they take to control the herd in the future are successful because we do not want to be in the same situation again.”
Kent Zimmerman ( in Shawnee) says...
“I have to accept the experts' opinion that there is a serious problem. I have not seen it myself. But I wish the board could find a non-lethal solution instead -- one that could be paid for by the developers who put up houses around the perimeter of the park and boxed in the deer. Whatever they do, it is NOT a harvest!”
David Fabac ( in Shawnee) says...
“I think it's a good decision and plan to cull the herd. I hope the parks department will consider some type of managed hunts in the future to prevent this situation from re-occurring.”
Tom Martin ( in Shawnee) says...
“I think the plan that was adopted was a good idea.”
