Our state celebrated its 149th anniversary Friday on Kansas Day. What do you like best about living in Kansas?
“My answer kind of contradicts with my first, for those who remember…so hopefully you don’t. The best part about living in Kansas is getting to experience every season to its full potential. I love to swim, I love to sled and I love everything that happens in between.”
“The people. It is the people who still look out for one another in times of trouble. It is also the can-do attitude and willingness to make Kansas a better place. I like the rivalry between the Jayhawks and the Wildcats even though I know the Fort Hays State Tigers are the best. I like the fact that even though I have traveled to 44 of the 50 states and Canada and seen some amazing things, it is Kansas that still offers the best overall living experience and common sense attitude.” Dennis Bixby Tonganoxie
“I am a born and bred Kansas prairie child. I like open land and the values of the midwest, especially those of the more rural areas. I lived a number of years on the east coast, where the operating assumption seemed to be ‘I won’t like you until I am introduced and you prove yourself.’ When I returned I realized the assumption here is: ‘I will like you until you give me some reason not to.’ That translated into ‘I will help you get your vehicle out of the snow bank even though I don’t even know who you are’ this winter. This is a good place to live.”

Do you fill out a bracket for the NCAA men’s basketball tournament?
“No, I sometimes watch games and I can tell you how KU, KSU and MU are seeded. My pleasure was watching the women’s competition this past week.”
