Do you agree with the Tonganoxie City Council's decision to charge rural residents with the 66086 ZIP code the same admission rates at the water park as those living in the city?

“No, I would rather see one rate plan for anyone who wants to swim. Tonganoxie voters made the decision to build the pool and use sales tax revenues to pay for it. Why not make out-of-towners feel welcome by charging them the same rate? Let everyone come and spend their money in Tonganoxie while they swim.”

“I haven't been following the politics of this matter so I am not very educated on the reasons for or against the rate change and reversal. I live in the city limits so the rate is the same for me either way. I know a lot of other cities have rates based on if you live in the city limits or not. I think the important thing is that our city pool have competitive rates so that people will go to our water park.”

“Honestly, I would have to agree with the comment made by Darren Shupe (in a April 28 Mirror story), stating that it would be easier on the staff, because I do work for the Tonganoxie Water Park. I think that it is just easier to make a set price, no matter where you live. I don't feel as if setting a base price for everyone is a tremendous problem.”

I live in the city and I do not use the pool. Why should I have to pay more taxes for out -of -towners to use the pool. If I read the paper correct the sale tax pays for the pool being built and our property taxes pay for operation's of the pool. So why should my tax money go toward operational so out -of -towners can swim off me. As far as let the out-of-towners come and spend money in our city. I agree come and shop in our city so they can help pay for this new pool. But they need to pay their fare share of the pools operation's too. Poor "Bret" he is still in school has no idea of what we have to pay here in this town on taxes. He just thinks it would be easier. How hard is to ask if they live in town?

He probably know how to spell better then you do but, do any of you two live in the city and pay property tax or are you still in high school? I don't have a problem with sharing the pool with out-of-towner I just think out-of- towners should share the cost. That is being staightup!

I don't think its right, I live 6 miles out so my zip code happens to be 66048 but we are from Tonganoxie,so just because of my address I have to pay more to use MY pool, thats wrong. We have been in Tongie our entire life, unlike alot of these people. And here we go again getting punished for it.

What are we talking about 50 cents or $1.00 more for out-of-towners to get in the pool? Do people who live out side the city limits have to pay for city taxes? Reach in your pocket and help pay for the pool. If people want the same as people that live in the city limits then move in the city limits. Then you don't have to pay 50 cent more. You get to pay higher property taxes to pay for the pool.

The pool is paid for using sales tax dollars that are paid for by people that live in town and by people that don't. I don't currently live in town but work here and do shopping here, eat here, buy gas here, and plenty more.

Yesterday we went to the Lawrence pool because it cost $11 to get in there and it would have been $22 to use the Tonganoxie pool. Part of the difference was the out of town rate and the rest was that Lawrence let in kids 4 and under for free. Tonganoxie charges for kids 2 and over. When we were done we went out to eat in Lawrence and spent another $30 there.

My point is that people that don't live in town are paying for the pool by spending our money in town. We should have as much right to use the pool as a resident. If it were being paid for with personal property taxes I would have a different opinion. People that don't live in town can easily go somewhere else. Lawrence was 20 minutes from McLouth, and Tonganoxie was 15. I would have come to Tonganoxie if the rates were the same or close to it, and I would have bought dinner here too, and probably patronized the lumberyard.

"imastinker" It is being paid by our property taxes. When we the citizens of "Tonganoxie" went and voted for the new pool we voted for the city's sales tax to raise 3/4 cents to pay for the pool for being built. The sales tax does not pay for the operations of the pool. What this means is the people that works there and all water, utilities, what ever it take to operate this new pool. This is what we the people that live in the city limits that pays property taxes are having to pay for " The Operations". So, yes the people that do not live in the city limits should have to pay a little more to help pay for this cost. I do not want the city of Tonganoxie to raise my property tax to pay for the operations of the pool. The people that use it should have to pay for this. Now if the city would raise the cost for everyone that use the pool and it would cover this cost for operations then I would not care. But to raise My property tax to help pay this cost I do not like.

Trouble:

There are also a lot of people that pay sales taxes to build the pool that have not used it once. I am one of those people. I think in the last few years I have spent tens of thousands of dollars in Tonganoxie that are taxable, and much more that aren't. It's more convenient for me to use the pool here, but not even close to the same price. When I go somewhere else my sales tax dollars go too. You may think it's unfair for property taxes to be used to pay for the pool, but I think it's unfair to ask people like me to pay for improvements that I then have to pay a different rate to use.

I don't like it when cities use sales tax dollars to pay for things they want. They do it so they don't have to raise property taxes and can tax people that can't vote in their district.

You can say the same about people that do live in the city limits. My wife or I have not ever used the pool. We spend alot of money is this town more then what you clam to have spent and We pay city Property taxes. Everyone has a choice to live where they want to. Like us we choose to live in town and you choose not to. So I will disagree with you on this. People that do not live in this city should have to pay a little more to help pay for the pool. They use it too. All of the cost should not fall back on the citizens of Tonganoxie. When something breaks or go wrong with the pool who do you think will have to pay for that? People that live in the city or people like you that live in another town or county? We will! You can choose not to shop here in town and you can choose not to use the pool. I would rather see the sale tax raise then my property tax on things like a swim pool! And I get to vote on things like this because I choose to live in the city.
