“While neither idea is new to this country, I would say I do agree with Obama's stance. I think a longer school year would help us students with retention and it would lessen review time. I've always believed that teachers deserve higher pay for what they do. So yes, I do agree.”

“I agree with the need for continued improvement in education because that’s what fuels a successful future for us all. It’d be impossible to extend the school year without a pay increase for teachers who already put in far more hours than they are paid for now. State government needs to pay attention to what’s being asked for because they don’t even want to fund what is in place now. And, the burden on taxpayers in already strapped states has to be considered. President Obama needs to assist states in getting education funding up to par first, then proceed with other options.”

“I don't think that those two things alone will even begin to fix what is broken in the current educational system, but I think that they could be helpful as part of a larger overhaul. Who can argue with paying a high quality teacher a better salary or allowing our kids more time and opportunity to learn? Although I must admit that I would be sad to lose part of the nice, long summer break.”
