“George Washington. He showed the leadership skills so seriously wanting at this time. The cause was greater than the politics yet politics was part of the cause. He could balance that equation. He understood that the United States was ‘a more perfect union’ and that the federal system as envisioned in the Federalist/Anti-Federalist debate was and is still the best system for governance. Finally, he knew when to leave, after all a ‘statesman’ leaves when their mission is done while a politician stays until their welcome has voted them out.”
