Tonganoxie High got off to a good start in district play Friday in Atchison. THS blanked Atchison, 49-0, and moved to 7-0 on the season. The team also is 4-0 in Kaw Valley League play and 1-0 in districts.
Tonganoxie jumped out to a 21-0 first-quarter lead and never looked back Friday in its homecoming game against Turner. THS won, 41-8, improving to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in Kaw Valley League play Tonganoxie got on the board first with 9:27 still left in the first quarter. THS quarterback Mason Beach found Elijah Tyner for a 20-yard touchdown pass.
The Tonganoxie High football team scored 55 points in the first half Friday against Bishop Ward in Kansas City, Kan. THS used reserves much of the second half and nearly had a shutout, but the Cyclones scored late for their first touchdown of the season. Tonganoxie prevailed, 61-6, improving to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in Kaw Valley League play. The Chieftains amassed 467 yards of total offense, 383 of which came on the ground.

Tonganoxie High spoiled Spring Hill’s christening of a new football stadium Friday in a game that went from apparent shootout to a matter of field position. The Chieftains trailed just once on their way to a 23-14 season-opening victory, but it was a grudge match much of the game.
