Tonganoxie High girls golf team members ham it up Monday in Clay Center after placing third in a Class 4A regional and qualifying for state for the second time in three years. Golfers are holding up teammate Hayden York, who finished as runner-up in Clay Center.

A windy day in north central Kansas couldn’t keep Tonganoxie High from pushing forward to Day 2 of the Class 4A Girls Golf Championships. THS finished fifth in the team standings after 18 holes Monday at Salina Municipal Golf Course. The Top 6 teams in the 12-team state tournament advance to the second day. “We made the cut,” THS coach Doug Sandburg said Monday night. “Not quite what I was hoping for. Fifteen back of third is a little far.”

Tonganoxie High girls golf is headed back to state for the second time in just five years as a varsity program. THS placed third Monday at the Clay Center Country Club, finishing the day with a 414 score. Wamego won the regional title with a low score of 358. Hayden placed second with a 388.
